Would taking magnesium help my severe constipation?I have been severely constipated since I was about 7. I have been wondering about taking magnesium. Would this help? I've tried all the over-the-counter (OTC) medications but to no avail. I've eaten lots of fruit and veggies, and this works for about 4 days. I also drink lots of water, 6-8 glasses a day, sometimes more. I live in Canada, so we don't get all the products that you do.Magnesium has many formulations and many uses. Magnesium citrate, sulfate and hydroxide can be used for the treatment of constipation. Magnesium sulfate is the most potent. Magnesium can also be used as an antacid. Magnesium carbonate, hydroxide, oxide and trisilicate are used for this indication. The hydroxide salt has the fastest onset of action. The carbonate formulation is slower and the trisilicate form has the slowest but longest time of action because it is poorly soluble. For people with magnesium deficiency, such as liver cirrhosis, alcoholism, congestive heart failure and chronic diarrhea or vomiting, pancreatitis, malabsorption, kidney disease, pancreatitis, and inflammatory bowel disease, magnesium supplementation is necessary. Magnesium gluconate or chloride is a good choice since it causes less diarrhea. Magnesium oxide should be avoided due to side effects like diarrhea and the carbonate is not very soluble.

Hi I am a new mom and breastfeeding my 5 months old baby. I am facing a terrible problem which I never had to in my entire life. I do have a BM once everyday but it is hard stool (apologies for being blunt) no matter what I do it stays this way. I have tried high fiber diet (still following it), exercise, increased water intake but nothing seems to work, I always have constipated stool (even though I go once everyday) and end up with a tear. I am depressed very depressed. I don't have any cramps or bloating or pain which might indicate other problems what shoul I do? Please help, it inly seems to soften when I use some type of laxative other than bulk laxatives which don't seem to work. Regards

What need to do for constipation

I was a long term sufferer of constipation, I tried a number of herbal based remedies including Senokat and some fibre boosting products like Fibrogel. None of these worked for me. I resorted to the web and found a couple of interesting sites too, the best was constipation.asia They seem to advocate a product called Dulcolax so I am currently trying that and the early results are good for constipation .

i am a constipation sufferer, i drink loads of water yet am still always constipated, i have to take laxatives to help me go.i have been takind xenical for 2 days now and would like to know that even though i am not a frequent number 2 goer will it still work and will i lose weight?please advise me on this thanks

constipation & allergies

Hi being suffering from constipation for a while now, been refered to gasto and i asked him was it possible that i could maybe have allergies to certain foods which leads to me being constipation n he said no cz allergies would make you have loose stools, is this correct as i keep reading that its not, however he told me to ignore what ever i had read on the net.Any advice would be great Thanx Danni
