6yo severely constipated

Dd is 6. She is severely constipated and has been for 6 months. We have done a total cleanout 3x now and she takes Miralax daily. We began Miralax 5x a day and Dulcolax 2x a day on Tuesdy and nothing. Her belly is hard and she just is miserable. She has lost feeling in her rectum due to it being stretched and she poops herself at minimum 4 times a day. She cant control it. Poor thing is so embarrassed. The doctor said our next step is to insert a NG Tube and flush her out. It will be done in the hospital. From my understanding she will be awake as they insert it. I don't want her to be scared or in any more pain.Is this our next step? Anyone been there, done that? I hate to see her in pain but we are at the end of our rope.
The doctor even used the word Obstipation. I guess it is worse than plain constipation.

Oxy-Powder Colon Cleanser - Any thoughts?

I LOVE oxy powder!!! It's the best thing when you are "backed up"! It's worth every penny if you are chronically constipated!
I have used BOTH Colonix and Oxy-Powder. I started using Colonix three years ago and use it for a "Spring Cleaning" once a year. It works well, you feel better but it is at least a 30 day commitment of night time tea, morning drink and capsules throughout the day. Its somewhat of a hassle but it works well! you use the bathroom ALOT and its always surprisingly strange looking when you have parasites or just unidentified things showing up in your poop. if its in there, it will slowly but surely get it out of your body. you will feel better. As for the Oxy-Powder, well it has quick results. I take 4 capsules at night on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. then i try to drink another glass of water at least before bed. Be ready for the 6am wake up call and make your first stop, after opening your eyes, the bathroom or you may be squeezing everything together and hobbling to the bathroom. It seems to be ok when you are lying down but after you get up its ready to work! Its fast and effective. If i get up at 6, I seem to have to go about 3-4times before 8am them i am pretty much good to go for the day. If I eat a larger meal instead of light snacking throughout the day then it continues to work. its a different feeling, as one post stated that it is like a "pure liquid" this is true in my case to however, it doesn't seem to be a painful burning like you would have with diarrhea. its just liquified. and the more water I drink the better it works. If you do try it, just for fun try this...in the morning when you are highstepping to the bathroom, step on the scale really quick and weigh yourself; then after rounds 1-3 weigh yourself again. you might be surprised.
I have to say that after months of seeing my son's BM's issues get worse and worse no matter what the diet, what laxatives, and what we did.. he continually got worse with constipation over about 6 months to the point of needing enemas every other day just to keep him comfortable. He has a lysosomal storage disease. We did a total cleaning with enemas for three days and gave oxypowder as well each night. Starting with 2 capsules. We did go to 6 capsules to get the cleanout we really needed.(adding one cap a night) We started fibrolynic enzymes as well to try break down any storage material that might be in the colon. We did this for 8 weeks and still do on ocassion. I can see still that one year later with 1 -2 caps a night, he has no more BM' issues. He goes 2 -3 daily, perfect consistency.
I have been severely constipated for the past four months because of a complicated mechanical/ functional problem of the colon that doctors can't locate or fix. So the only way I can eliminate is by giving myself regular enemas. And I take Oxypowder regularly to liquefy my stools so that they can flow down to my rectum for better elimination. My situation is far from ideal, but I have found that Oxypowder works better than other laxatives and stimulants. It's also easier on the stomach for me, as long as I don't take more than 3 capsules at a time. The other good thing about Oxypowder is that it's basically magnesium, a natural mineral that has few side effects, unlike most chemical-based drugs and laxatives. But you don't want to overdose on Oxypowder either, because high concentrations of magnesium can cause kidney problems.

Constipated Again!

I am constipated again. For 4 weeks now!

I took a laxative twice and went both times. I thought the problem was solved, oh was I wrong.I am constipated again.I went 2 weeks without going and 9 days without again after the first laxative. I have tried oat cereals and even spinach but I can't seem to rid myself from the bloated, bound up feeling, even after I go. Any tips? My mom used to have this as a child and she took some grain substitutes or something like that. Also, any similiar experiences?
Never..ever use laxatives for constipation. They are not good for your digestive system and can actually damage them.Try prune juice and lots of water, stay away from soda. You might also want to try Oxy-Powder, it works well with constipation.
I completely agree with Jay Reyes. Prune juice and water cured my chronic constipation after 2 long years. I was eating prunes, raisins, whole grains, plenty of other fiber sources, and drinking water till I thought I'd float away. Nothing worked like prune juice and water.
Hey - sometimes when I push comes to shove (pardon the pun), I have a day where I eat only oranges. It sounds strange, but back about 10 oranges, drink lots of water (like, 2 litres), and go for a long walk. It has worked for me, and I'm chronically constipated.

Constipated for more than 5 days?

What would be the danger of being constipated for more than 5 days?

Constipation has many dangers and side effects. When the bowels are not regularly pushing waste out, the entire digestive system can become backed up and unhealthy. Waste stays in our bodies longer, and becomes sticky and hardened along the intestinal wall, and, overtime, starts to fester and enlarge intestinal pores, letting toxins enter our blood stream. It also causes strain during bowel movements, resulting in diverticula, outgrowths that form along the walls of the colon where food and waste can get stuck and cause infection. There are a few products that you can try to help with the issue if this is something that occurs frequently due to medications you are taking, you can add a stool softener like docusate sodium. For immediate relief there are enemas, or magnesium citrate and dulcolax (although this can take up to 8 hours). If this is a chronic problem that cannot be related to diet or medications you should have a discussion with your physician

Yay I am unconstipated! I have some tips for constipation

My boyfriend has been constipated since we starting dating which has been about 8 months. He has tried everything. I'm a big coffee drinker and so he would drink coffee with me didnt work he has taken so many pills and drank so much and nothing will work he has tried fiber i mean nothing will work. It's really starting to worry me. Please if anyone can give any ideas or knows something that works.
Yeah, I'm constipated right now. I have work at 2pm-10:30 pm. My mom said to drink juice (regular bottled ex: apple) b/c my 18 mo old nephew always gets "the runs" when we dont dilute his juice. Im gonna try it. Hope this helps someone out there!
My first time, ya know being constipated. I'm trying to act as nonchalant as possible but on the inside I'm DYING. I've been constipated since yesterday. My doctor gave me a prescription laxative I've been taking that as the bootle says I've tried prune juice, coffee, and hot baths. All that did was make it feel like it was coming but nothing happened. I'm starting to FREAAAAAK out like really I'm terrified. Also I've been drinking TONS of water and still nothing. And whenever I feel it coming out it burns and stings. Please help me.
I have suffered from severe constipation for as long as I can remember. The only time in my life when I didn't suffer was for about a year when my marriage broke down and I basically ate very little. I used to go at least twice a day. They usually say that stress makes it worse but I think at that time the fact I didn't eat much helped.Since then however, the problem has continued. I'm also going through my menopause and the problem has intensified. It's got to the point that even when I take strong laxatives, it doesn't work. The only thing that does seem to work but it is a bit expensive is Herbal Inn Soup mix no 12. It's basically a tea that you boil up in a saucepan and then drink it twice a day. It doesn't taste particularly wonderful but you can put a drop of honey to make it taste better. Its £40 for a weeks worth. I make mine last longer by reboiling the tea bag more than once. The tea contains rhubarb and nutmeg. This really does work and doesn't give you painful stomach cramps like other medicines. I'm going to start a new diet and eat loads of fresh veggies, All Bran and drink loads of water. I love spicy food but know this makes my stomach worse. My stomach is now so bloated and I think gas is not helping my constipation. I have felt really ill for the past few weeks. I think the toxins are in my blood stream and making me feel terrible; dizzy, restless, feverish, nauseaus. I can't wait to feel better again. The other thing is I've piled on the weight and can't seem to shift it. I hardly ate all last week but I haven't lost any weight. It's beginning to get me down. So, I've booked in for a colonic hydrotherapy session and ordered two more Herbal Inn packs. Desperation tactics but at least I know they work!
I would just like to mention to all of you reading this that water really is the biggest deterrent to constipation... After I read this article: I decided to absolutely chug water every day. As long as I make sure to drink a lot of water I usually don't deal with constipation too much anymore.. although I do sometimes have it still drinking water has really helped with my chronic constipation

Constipated - so what ?

I am in my early 50's and eat well, but I only empty my bowels once every 7-10 days. The stools are lumpy, wide and firm and sometimes take a lot of effort to pass, but otherwise no problems.I never take laxatives or have enemas. So why do some people get so concerned about their constipation after not going for just a few days ?
AdelleDon't worry. My doctor says that over a period of years the large bowel and rectum get used to storing large lumpy stools by stretching, and the anal muscles gradually adapt to pass large widths.I am glad you or your daughters are not conned into buying any form of laxatives. The only downside is that my stools - often 2.5 inches in diameter after a week or more of constipation - may up to take 15 minutes to gradually pass and then refuse to be flushed and block the loo.

Hi Hermione,She is 11 yrs old her stools are between 1 an 2 inches in diameter, they are firm to hard, dry and lumpy. She says its like her anus isnt big enough for it to come through hence she has to strain hard to get it out often causing her to bleed. I am not sure if its the straining or the stool that is causing the bleeding.Even when she isnt constipated and is straining to produce she bleeds without having passed any stool.Adelle
|I personally don't want to carry waste in my body for any longer than a day....I can't imagine not having regular bowel movements.I found an article that talks about how people have gotten relief from constipation - maybe this will help those of you that want to get the poop out ;)/oxy-powder-review...
in my case i suffer constipation that leads to Hemorrhoid every time i poo blood comes along...the toilet bowl water turns red...i watch my diet.. eating high on fiber even fruits such papaya but still not effective. Then one time a friend told me to take a beer every night before going to bed. Guess what? It WORKS...in the morning my stool became soft. No more blood. i even poo everyday now thanks to him, thanks to the beer no more expensive medicine just natural alcohol...so to everyone who suffers Hemorrhoid due to constipation do The Filipino Way! Drink 1 to two bottles of beer every night before going to bed. And in the morning or afternoon try to poo(basically you will poo because of beer). Its important to poo everyday to flash toxic and not to make the stool hard.while dringking beer eat dalandan or orange or lemon it will make it more effective.
recently I have really hard and lumpy stools and it was so bad that everytime I faecate I bleed. Most probably due to anal fissure. Been very depressed about it. I drink about 2 over litres of water a day. eat bananas, and many other fruits and vegetables.
My son is 15 years old and spends up to two hours or so in the bathroom trying to go. He doesn't have pain but the stool is very wide and hard that even Kohler’s top of the line widest toilet can’t handle the flush. The stool has to be cut to be flushed. Is there a tablet that might soften the stool so it can be flushed without cutting it? He refuses to cut it so guess who get’s stuck! Help.|||Well, here is my slant on chia seeds. I am a 58 year old female, who has had cronic constipation for several years. I had had several ruptured disks in my lower back years ago, and had been put on narcotic painkillers for several months. I had heard they were constipating and assumed that was the cause. Looking back, I think the real cause was nerve damage, because prior to that I never experienced constipation, and after going off of the painkillers, the constipation got progressively worse until I was in agony with it. I had a stroke in Auguest of '07, and constipation took on a whole new dimension. I was having a bowel movement once every 6 days or so after 2 or 3 days of terrible pain and straining. I couldn't sit, I had no "push" or urge to go at all, just bloating, swelling and a terribly full rectum. The stool was invariably dry, and in little round pellets, kind of like deer droppings, even though I was taking 2 collace capsules every night. I tried Fiber Choice, bran cereal, prues, prune juice (I did hear taking a full glass of prune juice and lying on your left side for 30 minutes would really do the trick, and it did work once or twice, but then it didn't any more.) I tried lots of roughage (salad every day, sometimes twice a day), spinach, sour kraut, lots of home remedy suggestions, no results. My doctor suggested Milk of Magnesia, I gagged it down (why didn't she tell me it came in tablets?) and it worked. Once. Never again. I was looking for information of psyllium husks and Metimucil when I ran across an article about Salvia (Chia Seeds) ending constipation. They made it sound like a miracle. I ordered 3 one pound bags and made the gel.(1/3 cup of seeds, 2 cups of water, stir, wait 5 minutes, stir again.) The gel can be stored in the fridge, eat 2 heaping tablespoonsful every morning. Surprisingly, it isn't slimy, it is very enjoyable, fun to pop the little tender seeds. At first I was stirring it into bran cereal, it didn't taste bad, but looked awful. Then I just ate the gel. At first I thought it was another dud idea, and almost gave up. Nothing happened for about the usual 6 days, but then I had a very full, painless BM, almost no straining, and felt much better. Then nothing for 2 more days, then another large easy BM. Then a regular BM every day for the next 3 days. Two days more, no BM, then a BM every day for the next 3 days. All easy, fully formed. The next day I had 2 BMs. Today I had another. This works. It really does. Don't give up too soon, evidently it takes about a week or so to get going, then you're pretty much set. I had to pass this on as I know what the misery of constipation is, and if even one person benefits from what I have learned it will have been worthwhile. I am using the regular black seeds. Right after I ordered them, I saw lots of ads online that say only the white ones work. I also saw the articles that say that is so much hype, and both colors were tested and had identical properties. Of course, the white are about 4 times more expensive than the black, and if I hadn't already gotten the black ones I would have liked to try the white, but they are working for me just fine. I paid about $6 a pound for them online, lots of places sell them. They are the mysterious "SALVIA" you are hearing about, just another name for the same thing, a cheap, readily available seed grown in Mexico. Its even the same seeds used to grow the green stuff on Chia pets! Lots of Omega 3 oils, lots of other benefits supposedly, and I guess that is probably true, but they do put an end to constipation, at least for me. Until I found them I was considering dynamite! They can also be used in cooking, or just sprinkled over other foods, my husband likes it in oatmeal, I like the gel myself. If anybody has any questions about my experience with this stuff, I would be glad to help if I can.Best wishes,Missy
I need to go! I was at work this morning, i felt sick so went to the toilet where i realised i was REALLY constipated. I'm really scared cos when i went i'm sure i felt a hemorrhoid...anyway my poo just would not come out and i was freaking out about hemorrhoids so i came home. Went to get some fibre drink cos i get sick from normal laxative tablets. I'm sitting here now dying to go to the toilet but i know it's going to rip me apart and i worry that a hemmorrhoid will come out while i'm at it. I'm a hyperchondriac too so i think i'll wait til my boyfriend gets home and he can sit outside the door in case i die lol. Wish me luck!:o/

The longest time constipated ?

I'd had an untreated coccyx injury so I couldn't go properly.Greeeeat.Now I am constipated again. 8 days no go. Yes claire I think we have all had a situation like that. It was so painful! So far oats and brans aren't helping this time. Well I am hoping I go!

I am always taking laxatives and enemas because im always constipated and i will poop for like three days in a row and then i will be constipated again!!!!, i hope i dont die help me!!!!
I am on day 8 of constipation with my pregnancy of 2 months. Day 2 I ate 5 prunes and 2 oranges. Day 5 I took 3 senna pills and MOM. Day 7 I took a total of 4 docusate pills,8oz of prune juice and an apple. Day 8 so far 2 docusate, grapes and 2 lg glasses of OJ. I did probably have a total of 15 sm marbles come thru. Day 4 I also rectally removed some marbles with my own finger. That's how crappy I felt. I'm waiting to hear from my nurse on what to do next.

7 days sounds bad but not so terrible. I was constipated for three weeks straight. Without those miraculous laxatives (ducolax and miralax) I would have accumulated poo to the throat. Sounds disgusting but very scary. After my GI visit, we found out I had polyp at 28! It turned out to be precancerous, so I'm glad it was removed. Although I'm not sure if it was the cause of my constipation, but after the procedure I went back to normal, well semi-normal. I've stopped using laxatives and have been having a regular bowel movement every day. Some days I get constipation but I blame it on my diet. Too much meat, less fiber equals constipation for me.I hope everyone's poo ordeal will be resolved well. It sucks to be this situation. It is funny when you read about it, but not at all when you have to go through it.Happy pooing =D

Yay I am unconstipated! I have some tips

Hey!I have been constipated for over 2 weeks, and don't find me weird by saying this but for like the 13th day I made one small dropping. It was pretty bad, the bloating was horrible, and I had the urge to go but nothing came out. I was on a laxative pill, but still no go. Then I took this liqued laxative, and another dropping. Then I increased the dosage the next day and I went! Yay! lol. Here are my suggestions for severe constipation:-Eat shredded mini wheats cereal -Truly helps-Liqued stool softener/laxative -Seems to hit your system faster (For me 5 hours about)-This may sound silly but, if you find yourself in one of those "half in half out" situations, try to sing it seems to nerve your system up alot! lol.
I am really constipated too & I have been trying to go but, nothing will come out. The last time I had this problem I had a ovarian cist.. I need help && fast. Im only 17 & im tired of this~

But my father (he's a doctor) doesn't like me doing these things so now i'm back to being constipated and i'm really doing everything I can...eating fruits, wheat and fiber but it doesn't seem to work!!!!!
I have been constipated for 2 months..
me again... forgot to say do NOT hold in your bowel movement...(at least try not to)... this screws up you intestines which can be the cause for you getting constipated in the first place

Women constipation

Why Women Get Constipated More Often then men

Anatomical differences, excessive concerns over hygiene, social conditioning, stricter compliance with bad medical advice, and a propensity for “healthy nutrition” predisposes women to constipation much more than men. Fortunately, you don't need a gender-bender to avoid this trap!Problems watching? View onYouTube.Transcript:Well, not only constipated. Women are also more often affected by colorectal disorders and cancers, related to constipation. There are several reasons behind this anomaly, only some of them related to gender. Lets review the major ones: ● First, all things being equal, women are exposed to more stress than men over family responsibilities, hormonal modulations, and societal pressures and expectations. Unfortunately, mental stress contributes to constipation just as bad as physiological factors.● Next reason are common concerns over hygiene, or embarrassment over the smell and noise while in the public bathroom, or inconvenience of using bathrooms outside of home. This factor often results in the conscious withholding of stools, that contributes to constipation. ● Next, straining during natural pregnancies commonly causes the enlargement of internal hemorrhoids. In turn, enlarged hemorrhoids cause pain while moving the bowels, and may eventually lead to incomplete emptying and the ensuing chronic constipation. ● Next, women happen to be expert strainers, because they are naturally skilled at using the abdominal and pelvic muscles to deliver babies. Unfortunately, even moderate straining contributes to chronic constipation. ● Finally, women are more likely than men to lead a so-called "healthy lifestyle" and consume a presumably "healthy diet," which usually means a diet high in fiber, and low in fat. All of the above conditions, factors, food choices, and circumstances predispose women to constipation and colorectal disorders at a much higher rate than men in a similar environment. So, if any of the above applies to you too, or to your mom, or to your sister, or to your girlfriend, or to your daughter, review this page to learn how to fix, prevent, and avert them all, enjoy your womanhood, and spare yourself from much larger headaches down the road! Good luck, ladies!RecommendationsIn general, women are more affected by colorectal disorders than men because of the long-lasting and mainly irreversible impact of pregnancy and vaginal delivery on the colorectal organs. Even the best and most well-meaning physician may not be fully aware of these profound differences, so you have to keep them in mind.Women must also recognize that their constipation and related disorders may be more severe than the same in men of the same age for all of the reasons mentioned in the video. This means you'll have to work harder and more assertively to anticipate and overcome constipation, and prevent further damage. Fortunately, the entire knowledge regarding the normal physiology of bowel movements is identical for men and women. So start your exploration from this section: No Downsize, Just Upside-down. The more you know about the art of moving the bowels, the less likely you are going to get stuck in the bathroom. This truism applies equally to your children. The more you know about stools, the less likely they'll ever suffer from constipation.Original ScriptI hate stuffiness, and struggle with myself all the time to restrain my natural tendency for irony, humor, and satire, particularly over a subject as humor-prone as this one! That endless quest for 'respectability' and 'good toilet manners' killed the original script of this video in favor of the lamer version above. This one also tends to be more informative. So, I hope you'll see through the forest:— Mr. Monastyrsky, why do women get constipated more often than men?Well, because, as you well know, women are from Venus, and men are from Mars. And since Venus has almost three times a higher gravity than Mars, women learn to suppress the urge to move the bowels and withhold stools three times more likely than men, and, unfortunately, they pay for this bad habit with constipation more often than men.— Second, anatomical differences play a role — unlike men, women are expert strainers, because they are naturally skilled at using abdominal and pelvic muscles to deliver babies. Well, the exact same muscle control enables them to strain much more strongly than men. But straining happens to be a big no-no, because it causes hemorrhoidal disease, anal fissures, and anorectal nerve damage — three nasty conditions that precede, contribute to, and accompany chronic constipation.— Third, unlike men, most women get embarrassed by the noises they make in a public bathroom, so they withhold stools until they get home. This unfortunate habit enlarges stools. In turn, large stools require straining to be expelled. In turn, large stools and straining cause the anorectal damage I have already mentioned before. To eliminate this health menace, public bathrooms in Japan are equipped with a gizmo called the “Sound Princess.” At the mere press of a button it emits the loud sound of a toilet flush, saving water and health all at once… (to myself: consider adding this sound to video).— Fourth, women are quite particular and fussy over their anal hygiene because the vagina and the anus are next door neighbors. Naturally, many women will try to withhold stools until they get home, and, sooner or later they will run into all of the same set of problems as I have just explained…— Fifth, many women wouldn‘t sit on a public toilet for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, squatting over a high toilet bowl may lead to an incomplete emptying of the bowels, and result in all of the same problems that cause constipation…— Six, many women don‘t have the nerve to tell their boyfriends or even husbands — “hold on darling, I need to poop…” This, unfortunately, forces them to deploy their amazing skills of suppressing stools with everything bad that follows. Believe me, ladies, men know you poop the same way we do. So, if you need to go, — go… If your boyfriend is getting embarrassed over you being a human, then he doesn‘t deserve you. Believe me, being single and regular is more fun than being constipated while married to a jerk!— Seven, pregnancy is another factor that contributes to the development of constipation. The intense straining during delivery often causes irreversible hemorrhoidal disease with all of the ensuing complications related to this condition, constipation being the first one.
