Can Toviaz cause constipation?

Toviaz is part of a group of medications called anticholinergics that work to relax the muscles of the bladder, which controls the muscle spasms that are causing your condition. The prescribing information on Toviaz does list constipation as a common side effect of the medication, occurring in up to 6 percent of patients taking Toviaz during clinical studies. If you are experiencing constipation with Toviaz you should talk to your physician as well as making a few dietary and lifestyle changes to help with the side effect. Here are some suggestions for dealing with constipation: Increase the fiber in your diet. Add foods like beans, bran, fruits, and vegetables Drink plenty of water. Try warm liquids in the morning, drink an extra 2 to 4 glasses of water during the day. Regular exercise Stool softeners or mild laxative. You can try using docusate sodium or senna to help relieve the constipation, but these should not be used on a daily basis unless directed by your physician. If you are experiencing severe constipation with Toviaz, you should seek the advice of your physician because if left untreated, severe constipation can lead to more serious issues.
