Constipation disappeared!

My constipation mysteriously disappeared!
I've had chronic constipation for my entire life. Normally I only have 1-2 bowel movements a week, but I never had cramps only an uncomfortably full feeling. But for the past week I've had a bowel movement every single day! This has never happened to me before. My diet has remained the same, I haven't changed my exercise plan and I've been drinking just as much water as I always have been. I don't think I've been any more stressed than usual, either. Any idea how I'm finally able to go every day after years of constipation? I really am curious, because whatever it is, I want to continue doing it because I feel great. I can't get over how light I feel and how comfortable my jeans are.I am a little concerned, however, because I've been having some lower abdominal soreness all week. It isn't so much cramping as it is just a constant sore feeling, like I've been doing sit ups all day. Could something be wrong?

Magnesium for constipation

Hey guys. I am a 21 year old male who has had problems with constipation for around 2 years now. MY doctor thinks it may be related to a condition called an anismus. BAsically my butt muscles all contract at the same time, which is bad. WHat I have been doing is using a rip off of oxypowder cal mnag 07 every night now. It is the only thing that allows me to use the bathroom without difficulty in the morning.MY qustion is, instead of taking one large dose at night, would it be better to spread it out between 2-3 doses during the day? WOuld this help me go more frequently during the day? That would be so amazing! I know it attracts water into the intestine so it is non habit forming and my doc OK'd it.....
I have tried, I'd say, about 10 things in the past 4 years to get me regular and take solid dumps. I eat pretty well, but I always have this full and uneasy feeling after using the restroom. I think I have had constipation and I never feel that "ahhhhhhhhh" satisfied feeling after using the restroom, just discomfort and annoyance. I've tried mineral oil, pills, psyllium husk, fiber, and various other variations of the sort. I ordered online the Dr max Powers 15 Day Cleanse, and popped 2 pills in. Let me tell you something. I was laying down and I had this automatic feeling that came ovr me to go and use the restroom and I took one of those dumps where you feel damn good. No backup and honestly I feel happy that I did. It's been a good while since I've taken a dump like that. I highly recommend this 15 Day Cleanse for anyone who is frustrated and lives on a day to day basis with that backed-up feeling. Purchase these. And they're natural. I wish you could post pics on this thing, but that would be gross and funny. But at least it could make all of you believers.
I never heard of your condition so my tips would be for normal health or eating habits. I too struggled with constipation and following the plan I have on my blog worked for me. I researched so much to finally find a combination of Gluten Free eating, lots of water and probably more fruits and vegetables than you would think. The tips are mostly healthy eating advice and recipes. Talk to your doctor to make sure what you are doing is fine. I also take Magnesium, about 100o mg per day. I was spending too much money at first to stop constipation and learned so many things I can just do naturally. My smoothies are one of the best solutions for me because they are packed with so much fiber and so delicious too. I drink them almost daily. Here is one of my Tropical Fruit Smoothie Recipes, it is so good: http://constipationblog.blogspot.ca/

In Ayurveda they recommend oil enamas. You may try that. About 50ml of oil I believe. Lubricates the colon.Otherwise, your stools may just be too dry. I was severely constipated until I caught how dry foods (e.g. dried fruit, popcorn, etc.) drying up my stools. How much water do you drink a day?AnnDr. Mauro's free course on avoiding constipation.

castor oil thetreatment of constipation?

What is the dosage and proper administration time of castor oil in the treatment of constipation?

Castor oil is an over-the-counter stimulant laxative for the relief of occasional constipation. Side effects of Castor oil are abdominal pain, cramping, nausea, and felling faint. Adults and children over the age of 12 can take 1 to a maximum of 4 tablespoons (15ml to 60ml) in a single daily dose. Do not use for a period longer than 1 week. Take this product 2 or more hours before or after other medications. Laxatives may affect how other drugs work. When your doctor prescribes a new medication, be sure to discuss all your prescription and over-the-counter drugs, including dietary supplements, vitamins, botanicals, minerals, and herbals, as well as the foods you eat. Always keep a current list of the drugs and supplements you take and review it with your health care providers and your pharmacist. If possible, use one pharmacy for all your prescription medications and over-the-counter products. This allows your pharmacist to keep a complete record of all your prescription drugs and to advise you about drug interactions and side effects. For more specific information, consult with your doctor or pharmacist for guidance based on your health status and current medications, particularly before taking any action. Which foods can help relieve constipation?

Can you suggest a diet to eliminate taking MiraLax for constipation?

Constipation is a medical condition that is defined as having three or less bowel movements per week. Symptoms of constipation include straining during the passage of stools, pain during defecation, having the sensation that you need to defecate, but can't and passing small, hard and/or dry stools. Medical experts recommend eating a diet that is high in fiber, drinking plenty of fluids (especially water) and getting exercise as ways to help eliminate constipation. Many individuals do not eat enough fiber. Fiber is found in foods such as vegetables, fruits and products that contain whole grains. It is further recommended that individuals suffering from constipation should avoid foods that are sugary and high in fat. In some patients, the above recommendations may not be enough and treatment with medication may be required. It is always recommended to talk to your physician regarding your constipation. Constipation can be a sign or symptom of various underlying medical conditions. A physician can properly diagnose you and treatment options can be explored based upon the diagnosis. For more specific recommendations, it is advisable to talk to your physician, or a nutritionist. For more information, consult with your doctor or pharmacist for guidance based on your health status and current medications, particularly before taking any action.

It feels like my butt was sewn shut

...seriously.A little over a year ago I went through a traumatic move in my life blah blah long story and a almost exactly a year ago I began to defecate less often.I used to go like 3 times a day and it was quick and painless and easy, but for about a year it has been really hard. Sometimes worse that others. It feels like my anus is really small because I strain A LOT and when I look in the toilet it's like a piece of poo the size of a marble. I don't get it.Does anyone know why it feels like my butt has been superglued for one year?
Dear Used to Poo Often:I would suggest seeing your doctor for a complete exam first. She/he may run tests such as a rectal exam, colon xray or colonoscopy to make sure your constipation is not caused by some abnormality. Examine your diet: Are you drinking enough water and eating enough fiber? Do you eat alot of cheese, sugar and processed foods? These can cause constipation. You may just have IBS since you mentioned a "traumatic move". If that's all it is, then you might want to try taking cascara segrada at bedtime and see if that gets things moving. Of course the "dreaded enema" is what I recommend of stubborn constipation. Start with a nice 1/2 liter of cool filtered water to stimulate contractions in the bowel and clean out all that toxic waste you must be building. You'll be surprised how much better you'll feel! First check with your doctor though. If your bowel is otherwise healthy, you can take an enema safely. I hope you feel better soon.
i'm 22 and i constipated very badly for 6 months. it was torture. nothing worked - i ate an equivalent of a small forest everyday and metamucil, lansoyl, a papaya a day, you name it i did it.

Is it okay to take Senokot being 10 weeks pregnant to relieveconstipation?

Is it okay to take Senokot being 10 weeks pregnant to relieve constipation?

Laxative tablets of any kind are not recommended during pregnancy as they may stimulate uterine contractions and cause subsequent dehydration among other issues. It is important to maintain a high fiber diet and drink plenty of water. Most pharmacists recommend supplementary use of Metamucil (psyllium) to be helpful with meals not containing adequate amounts of fiber. Please check with your OBGYN physician for his or her favorite remedies. Continue to move, continue to exercise, immobility causes a good percentage of constipation.

What do I take to stimulate my colon?

My stools are soft enough to pass through, but I am frequently constipated. I exercise a lot, drink at least 8-8 oz. glasses of water a day, and eat plenty of fruits/veggies, and whole grains. What can I take to stimulate my colon? The first steps to treating constipation are eating high-fiber foods, drinking plenty of fluids, and exercising. If you have tried these changes and are still constipated, you may need a laxative to help the problem. There are several types of laxatives and each type works in a different way. Some agents increase the bulk and add water to the stool to make it easier to pass. These include Metamucil and Fiberall. There are also osmotic agents (Milk of Magnesia, Cephulac, and Sorbitol) that increase the amount of fluid in the colon, keeping stools soft and easy to pass. Stimulant laxatives promote muscle contraction in the colon and include Correctol, Dulcolax, Purge, and Senokot. Lastly, there are lubricant laxatives, which help to grease the stools to help them pass more easily. Mineral oil is the most common lubricant laxative and it can be found in Fleet products. These laxatives are intended for short-term use. If you are concerned about your constipation or you have used laxatives for more than 1 week, you may want to contact your health care provider.

For constipation

What is good for constipation?

Constipation is a symptom of infrequent hard to pass bowel movements. Causes of constipation include dietary, hormonal and anatomical factors, and as a side effect of medications (eg, some opiates). Treatments may include changes in dietary habits, laxatives, and enemas. Laxatives are foods, compounds, or drugs taken to induce bowel movements or to loosen the stool. An enema is the procedure of introducing liquids into the rectum and colon via the anus. I would recommend that you use a bulk laxative or fiber supplement. Bulk-producing agents cause the stool to be bulkier and to retain more water, as well as forming an emollient gel, making it easier for peristaltic action to move it along. They should be taken with plenty of water. Bulk-producing agents have the gentlest of effects among laxatives and can be taken just for maintaining regular bowel movements. Examples: Bran, Gamkaraya, Sterculia [Normacol], psyllium husk (Metamucil), methylcellulose (Citrocel), dietary fiber and foods such as apples and broccoli. All the products can be found at your local pharmacy or grocery. Review the information on Everyday Health located on the Digestive Health tab at constipation clinic

Could you recommend something to help induce a bowel movement?

Could you recommend something to help induce a bowel movement?Would you recommend anything to help induce a bowel movement? I've been taking Colace for 3 days and still haven't gone to the restroom. I usually go every 3 to 4 days. I take Benefiber and exercise and eat healthy. I think that not being able to use the restroom is the reason I'm not losing that much weight. There are certain medications that can be used to treat constipation. Laxatives are foods, compounds, or drugs taken to induce bowel movements or to loosen the stool. Laxatives work to hasten the elimination of undigested remains of food in the large intestine and colon. An enema is the procedure of introducing liquids into the rectum and colon via the anus. In your particular case, I would recommend either an enema such as Fleet enema or a laxative suppository such as Dulcolax suppository. Both are available at your pharmacy in a generic form. I do not think that it is healthy for you to have a bowel movement every 3 to 4 days. I would also recommend that you add a bulk fiber product to your benefiber, such as Metamucil (psyllium husk) or Citrocel (methylcellulose), again both available at your pharmacy. For any immediate concerns, consult your physician. Joseph Hall, RPh

constipation drug lactulose

Is it okay to take the constipation drug lactulose on a permanent basis?

Is it okay to take lactulose, a drug for constipation, four or five times a week on a permanent basis?Lactulose should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. It is recommended for the treatment of constipation that adults take 15-30ml of oral syrup solution once daily. Continuous use of laxatives can result in dependency, meaning your body will require a laxative to produce a bowel movement. Talk to your doctor about your frequency of use of lactulose and any concerns you have about dependency. I believe you will find the following link at constipation clinic

Magnesium help with constipation

Does magnesium help with constipation from calcium?

According to the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements, people take magnesium to prevent or treat magnesium deficiency. Magnesium is also used as a laxative for constipation and for preparation of the bowel for surgical or diagnostic procedures. In the stomach, magnesium helps neutralize stomach acid and move stools through the intestines. In fact, some antacids, such as Mylanta or Maalox, combine magnesium and aluminum to work on the stomach and maintain normal bowel function as the laxative effects of magnesium balance the potential constipating effects of aluminum. Calcium is generally safe for most people when taken in recommended doses. Calcium can cause some minor side effects, such as belching or gas. Calcium supplements can decrease the absorption of dietary magnesium, but only at very high doses (2600 mg per day). For people with normal levels of magnesium, calcium does not have any clinically significant effect. Constipation can occur for many reasons. Before taking any action, such as changing or stopping your medications or supplements, talk to your doctor about your symptoms of constipation. In general, the first steps to treating constipation are eating high-fiber foods, drinking plenty of fluids, and exercising. Laxatives are intended for short-term use. If you are concerned about your constipation.

Always constipation.

I'm always constipated. What should I do?

I am a diabetic, 59-year-old female. I take nine pills every day and three more in the evening: metformin, glyburide, amlodipine, hydrochlorothiazide, Doc-Q-Lace, loratadine, Diovan, ferrous sulfate, and 81 mg aspirin. My problem is that I have a new doctor who cut down my stool softener by half, and now I'm irritable and constantly "stuck. " Sometimes I just take 3-4 so I can be comfortable. I drink a lot of water and apple juice hoping to help myself. I also love and eat oatmeal regularly, but without my stool softener I'm just not moving. I hate the feeling. I also don't take my iron because I believe it's the problem as well. I am allergic to fresh fruits and veggies so everything has to be cooked well or I break out. What options do I have? While taking the higher dose of softener, I still did not have a regular bowel movement -- maybe every 3 days, which was okay. But now it's not even that. Iron can definitely be a strong factor in causing constipation. Some of your other medications have constipation as a side effect as well. If the stool softener is not working, you could try Metamucil or Miralax once a day to see if that will help get your system back on track. If the constipation does not resolve, you should consult with your physician to see if a prescription laxative may be a better fit for you.

post-op constipation

What can I try for post-op constipation besides milk of magnesia and lots of water?I need advice on post-op constipation. I had surgery Wed (5/5) suppository in the hospital on Saturday, good bowel movements. I was released to home (5/8). I've had no bowel movements since. I have been eating full meals and 70 oz water daily, have had okay bowel sounds and some gas. Had 4 tablespoons milk of magnesia on Tuesday and Wednesday with no effect. What's next, another round of MOM?Your question regards management of post-op constipation. At this point, I would definitely recommend talking to your surgeon about this constipation. Make sure to tell them how long you have been without a bowel movement. They may want you to come in to the office to be further evaluated. Jen Marsico, RPh

constipation cured

I have had cronic constipation for as long as I can remember. Sometimes I wouldn't have a bowell movement for up to 2 weeks. I have also stopped up plenty of toliets. Mucus and blood was also in my stool. I have tried everything the doctors told me and nothing seemed to work. By accident, I think I stumbled on to my cure. Just recently, I eleminated all bread from my diet and I cut back on sugar. Since I stopped eating bread, I have gone 2 times a day! I haven't tried eating whole grain bread yet. So I think maybe my body has a hard time digesting the flour. It worked for me so I just wanted to pass it along.
Just in case anyone needs it, I found something great for constipation. I was really bad for weeks nothing worked then I saw someone sd a teaspoon of honey & then drink a hot drink. That did the trick really cleaned me out big time!
I take opoid pain killers for back pain and naturally I am constipated. I have tried every OTC and prescription med available to no avail, although some do work for a while but eventually give out! Anyone with any suggestions would be welcome.
I read with interest the various success's with whole grain breads. I too suffered from chronic constipation (for many years). Often times - up to two weeks before BM. Recently I came across WheatBelly(dotcom) and discovered my own miracle - by eliminating wheat. In 40 days I lost 26 lbs and have been eliminating more daily than I eat. My stomack gets smaller by the day. Gluten has been the issue all along. For the last 10 yrs I had been only eating whole grain bread and that didn't make a difference (I was waiting for it to start working like most people say, about the fiber) but nothing changed. The dastardly gluten (glue) is what bunged me up. I still can't believe that constipation has not been an issue for over a month and how I am feeling healthier than in my teens. That stuff effects everything not just bowels. My knees no longer ache and mental clarity is noticably improved. Good luck to all in your quest to solve constipation.

untreatable constipation in Toddler

Hi, my now 30 month old toodler son has suffered from severe Constipation literally from within a few days of his birth. i will need to give you some of his medical history so you can get a good picture so please excuse the length of the thread.basically his problems started when he was only 10 days old. maybe even earlier because after thinking back i remember the paediatrician mentioning that he had a very distended belly and asked if he had passed the first stool, which he had, though i cannot remember exactly how many hours old he was.when he was 10 days old he started bleeding from his anus and we brought him to the hospital where he stayed for a few days and it was put down to a milk allergy. he was put on the formula Neocate. the bleeding stopped but the constipation has remained since then and to this day. he was put on lactulose solution starting at 5ml twice a day and then moved up to more. he is now at 20 mls twice a day and his stools are still rock hard and he has yet to make a poo without the help of an enema, which we have to give him roughly every 4 days because he is in a lot of discomfort because he keeps being bound up by the hard poo's. i have been back to the doctors with him up-teen times and everytime we are just told to increase the amount of lactulose and to give him an enema every 4 days if he produces no poo. at once stage he was on 10mls lactulose twice a day and also movicol paediatric twice a day, both at the same time for about 6 weeks, with no softening of poo or other improvement.we are at our wits end. at this stage both me and my husband are convinced that our son's problems are more than just constipation. please advice.

Yay I am unconstipated! I have some tips for constipation

My boyfriend has been constipated since we starting dating which has been about 8 months. He has tried everything. I'm a big coffee drinker and so he would drink coffee with me didnt work he has taken so many pills and drank so much and nothing will work he has tried fiber i mean nothing will work. It's really starting to worry me. Please if anyone can give any ideas or knows something that works.
Yeah, I'm constipated right now. I have work at 2pm-10:30 pm. My mom said to drink juice (regular bottled ex: apple) b/c my 18 mo old nephew always gets "the runs" when we dont dilute his juice. Im gonna try it. Hope this helps someone out there!
My first time, ya know being constipated. I'm trying to act as nonchalant as possible but on the inside I'm DYING. I've been constipated since yesterday. My doctor gave me a prescription laxative I've been taking that as the bootle says I've tried prune juice, coffee, and hot baths. All that did was make it feel like it was coming but nothing happened. I'm starting to FREAAAAAK out like really I'm terrified. Also I've been drinking TONS of water and still nothing. And whenever I feel it coming out it burns and stings. Please help me.
I have suffered from severe constipation for as long as I can remember. The only time in my life when I didn't suffer was for about a year when my marriage broke down and I basically ate very little. I used to go at least twice a day. They usually say that stress makes it worse but I think at that time the fact I didn't eat much helped.Since then however, the problem has continued. I'm also going through my menopause and the problem has intensified. It's got to the point that even when I take strong laxatives, it doesn't work. The only thing that does seem to work but it is a bit expensive is Herbal Inn Soup mix no 12. It's basically a tea that you boil up in a saucepan and then drink it twice a day. It doesn't taste particularly wonderful but you can put a drop of honey to make it taste better. Its £40 for a weeks worth. I make mine last longer by reboiling the tea bag more than once. The tea contains rhubarb and nutmeg. This really does work and doesn't give you painful stomach cramps like other medicines. I'm going to start a new diet and eat loads of fresh veggies, All Bran and drink loads of water. I love spicy food but know this makes my stomach worse. My stomach is now so bloated and I think gas is not helping my constipation. I have felt really ill for the past few weeks. I think the toxins are in my blood stream and making me feel terrible; dizzy, restless, feverish, nauseaus. I can't wait to feel better again. The other thing is I've piled on the weight and can't seem to shift it. I hardly ate all last week but I haven't lost any weight. It's beginning to get me down. So, I've booked in for a colonic hydrotherapy session and ordered two more Herbal Inn packs. Desperation tactics but at least I know they work!
I would just like to mention to all of you reading this that water really is the biggest deterrent to constipation... After I read this article: I decided to absolutely chug water every day. As long as I make sure to drink a lot of water I usually don't deal with constipation too much anymore.. although I do sometimes have it still drinking water has really helped with my chronic constipation
